“Hello, is it me you’re looking for?” A line from Lionel Richie’s classic ballad? Or the question posed by Bali upon arriving at Causeway Steel’s premises for the first time in the same year as Richie’s #1 song hit airwaves? We may never know the answer to that conundrum. What we do know, however, is that Bali joined the Causeway Steel team aged 20 as a part-time machine operator working 4 hours a day.

With four children to tend to in their formative years, Bali wasn’t in a position to turn full-time until 1999. During her 35-year tenure at Five Ash Works, though, Bali has learnt a number of skills – everything from benchwork to machine work.

Causeway Steel’s team ethos has always been important to Bali, with colleagues eager to support one another on projects, with management being generous (for its time) and flexibility towards family-related time off, and with staff happy to socialise outside of working hours.

Certainly seems as though Bali was all Causeway Steel ever wanted… and vice versa.
