Alan Burnidge

Supervisor
Joined in 1973

Alan has spent almost half a century of years at Causeway Steel. Half a century. Let that sink in.

First, though, let us rewind… American Graffiti and Mean Streets are in cinemas. Last of the Summer Wine and Are You Being Served? make their bows on UK television. Yes, we are living in 1973. Against this cultural backdrop, Alan starts his working life at 16 as a trainee welder at Causeway Steel.

In the ensuing years, that apprentice has morphed into – among other things – a welding shop supervisor, main machine shop manager, tool setter, and machine maintenance operative.

Not content with gaining greater and greater experience in North Kent, Alan has spent time installing Hexmetal and anchors both in Italy and Cheshire on short-term commissions.

Outside of the world of rods, wires, and studs, Alan was a keen scuba diver until 2014 and played rugby for, and met his future wife at, Old Gravesendians R.F.C.
